History of Ormewood Park Presbyterian
The earliest date that relates to Ormewood Park Presbyterian Church is April 28, 1907. That is the date in a record book of Ormewood Mission, a community Sunday School, meeting in Ormewood Park School on the grounds now occupied by Anne E. West School. The record begins with a listing of four teachers, twenty-one students, and the collection - 73 cents. This Sunday School developed into the organization of a church. The first Session record of the church is the account of its organization on June 19, 1910, in the Assembly Hall of the YWCA. About thirty people were present, and under authority granted by the Presbytery of Tennessee of the United Presbyterian Church, organized the First United Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, GA. The services were held at the Women's Club rooms and at the Gate City Armory until October, 1911, when the Board of Home Missions directed that services be discontinued at these places, and the work confined to Ormewood Park and Center Hill. |

| At a meeting of the Session and Trustees on April 19, 1912, steps were taken toward the erection of a church building in Ormewood Park, services then being held in the school building. The lot where the sanctuary presently stands was donated by one of those founding members. | |||||||
| A congregational meeting on July 24, 1912, resulted in a unanimous vote to seek admission as a congregation in the Atlanta Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in the United States. This request was soon granted, and Ormewood Park was officially part of the Presbyterian Church in the United States.
Further steps were taken in November, 1912, toward erection of a church building. The original building (our present sanctuary) was occupied by the congregation early in the Spring of 1914. In 1931, the Sunday School Annex was built on the lot just west of the sanctuary and occupied by classes of young people and adults. As the Sunday School grew in number, our facilities had to be expanded and improved. During 1938-39, the basement of the sanctuary was remodeled for classes, the lower floor of the Annex completed, and the sanctuary itself was remodeled and redecorated. In January 1941, the addition of the ground level and first floors behind the sanctuary were completed and occupied. The building that has come to be known as the Fellowship Hall was completed in 1950. The 1996 renovations included repairs to the Sanctuary including a new roof, removal of the drop ceiling, restoration of the original cove ceiling and original palladium windows, rewiring and installation of the chandeliers (given to Ormewood Park by Central Presbyterian Church), and painting inside the Sanctuary, and the outside trim of the church building.
